KOGI STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY VISITS CHSTI FOR OVERSIGHT FUNCTION

Kogi State House Committee on Education, Science and Technology
The House Committee on Education, Science and Technology of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Lokoja paid a visit to College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah Kogi State on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020 to perform its oversight function as stipulated by the law of the Assembly. The visit to the College was led by Hon Kilani Olusola Olumo the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Usman Ibrahim(/Member) Hon Enema Paul(Member), Hon Suleiman Atajachi Musa (Member) ,Hon Barr Atabor Henry Cosmos(Member) ,Hon Musa Jimoh Omiata(Member) Comrd Husseini Umar as the Clerk secretary Of the Committee,

Welcoming the members of the House Committee on behalf of the management was the Provost of the college Dr Nuhu Anyegwu. The provost praised the commitment and the dedication of the Committee members on the assignment of monitoring budget performance of Institutions of higher learning in the State. He informed the Committee of the peculiar revenue process of the College and revealed that the college normally generates the bulk of its revenue between October and December, every year, which coincides with the resumption period of the College, at which time students are required to pay tuition fees. He added that the college is the only institution of higher learning that is not on subvention in the stated that the staff of the college does not enjoyed the tertiary institutions salary scale structure as it is been enjoyed by other institutions of learning in the state.

On achievements by the college during the year under review, the Provost revealed that the academic calendar of the College had been very stable in the last six years and that the college also installed CCTV cameras on campus to engender security of lives and property within the campus. In his word, he said under his administration and with the support of His Excellency Alh Yahaya Bello the college was able to get NBTE accreditation and all the departments within the college have gotten full accreditation from various regulatory board, the management was able to build an Ultra Modern Clinic, all in the year under review.

While responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kilani Olusola Olumo informed the College Management that the committee was on the visit to perform its oversight function and scrutinize the books of accounts and ascertain the level of compliance of the college with the approved budget from the revenue segment as well as the expenditure segment for year 2019/2020. He submitted that from the financial records of the College, it was apparent that the Institution had done well in revenue generation and in recurrent expenditure performance. He commended the College Management in the development of the College and advise them not to rest on their oars but to “Throw their cap on the hill in order to climb the hill” in the area of infrastructural development. He eulogized the College Management for not exceeding their approved budget for 2019 and advised that where it became expedient and inevitable for the College to spend beyond the approved budget, recourse should be made to the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, for supplementary budget. He averred that the income from the Administrative fee was transparent enough as listed in the books of records checked by the Committee.

In concluding, the House Committee Chairman, Hon. Kilani Olusola Olumo thanked the College Management for the good job they were doing at ensuring a smooth flow of academic calendar, transparency in all spheres of revenue and expenditure profiles and their efforts at maintaining and improving the status of the College.
At the event with the Provost, were the Deputy Provost Administration Mr shuaibu Umar, Registrar of the College, Mr. Musa Abdullazeez , the Bursar, Mr. Sunday Olorunfemi and other College functionaries.
